Building a website process

This is a general approach to designing and building a site, however project's are often different so this may vary.

Define

Firstly the goals of a proposed website need to be defined, this involves developing a clear understanding of what's achievable for a given budget and / or timeframe. It involves having an understanding of what your business is and does including:

  • short and long term goals
  • target market
  • competitors

Other criteria need to be identified such as:

  • what’s the proposed website functionality,
  • site structure
  • ongoing up keep or updating of the website
  • desired feel and presentation goals of the site

Design

Whether it’s professional, corporate, funky or flashy after the website goals and requirements have been defined the creativity can start, depending on the size of the project first draft designs are usually delivered between one and two weeks.

Develop

Once the site has been designed the site structure and HTML are then developed either into templates for a content management system or an interactive website, you will be able to see the progress of your site online in a dedicated production area.

Deploy

The site has been built and tested and waiting for sign off, all your hosting needs can be provided including setup, email hosting & setup, domain name delegation and migration. Of course these are optional and the finished project can be provided in the appropriate digital format. It’s also worth noting that although projects have proposed time lines they are an estimated guide, more often than not clients request changes or additions as a development evolves and the time may need to be adjusted accordingly.
